Molecular Biology Technician in Gloucestershire

The role involves carrying out research into the growth and survival characteristics of foodborne pathogens and spoilage organisms. Resaerch topics include: Microbiological Shelf Life Testing. Predictive modelling or Microbes. Challenge Testing.

Duties:

To provide technical support to the area of culture-independent analysis of food microflora through the extraction and analysis of nucleic acids.

Carry out practical work on research and contract studies including sample receipt, sample analysis, sample receipt, sample preparation.

DNA extraction,

PCR

Prepare samples for Next-Generation sequencing

Perform standard microbiological analysis of food

Perform calibration and monitoring tasks.

Person:

Own Car (due to location of the lab)

Good Scientific qualifications with an ability to understand and apply scientific techniques and principles.

Molecular biology experience of DNA extraction, PCR and Sequencing. This can be industrial experience OR experience gained during your education. Please make sure this is on your CV.

Preferably with a basic to good knowledge of microbiology and an aptitude to learn the following techniques after suitable training:

Sample preparation

DNA Extraction

RNA extraction

Use of standard molecular biology equipment

General food spoilage and food safety research

Sample receipt and preparation for culture - independent analysis
