Microscopy Analyst - Group Leader in Gloucestershire

Job Purpose

Plan, undertake, report and authorise work in the Microscopy Section.  To provide support and training to other members of the Microscopy Team and management of a small team.

 

Main Duties (including % of time spent)

Undertaking food microstructure investigations, microscopic investigations of samples for HMRC, glass/foreign body samples of a highly varied nature, ‘non-standard’ samples and food microstructure.

Authorising/signing off reports for submission to clients

Staff management including training, development and support

Responding to client queries and providing tailored quotes

To keep neat and orderly records of results and other relevant information

To work in a safe manner in accordance with departmental policies

To work in accordance with the Campden BRI management system.

 

Qualifications, Skills and experience

Specialist knowledge of food structure

Science degree

Good with scientific equipment including:

  • Light microscopy (stereo and compound microscopes)
  • SEM including imaging
  • X-ray microanalysis including elemental mapping
  • FT-IR spectroscopy including acquisition and interpretation of spectra

Review and development of new/existing method and procedures
