Environmental Sample receptionist / Sample Preparation in Warwickshire

Roles:  we have 7 jobs available

1x Sunday Thursday 6.30.a.m to 2.30.p.m.
2 x Tuesday to Saturday 6.30.a.m to 2.30.p.m
2 x Monday to Friday 2.30.pm to 10.30.p.m
2 x Monday to Friday  10.30.p.m to 6.30.a.m - (10% extra for this job)
Overall Purpose of the Role

The job holder will assist in the efficient management and timely provision of samples to the Laboratory in accordance with written and verbal instruction, and with due regard to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards.

To prepare samples for testing by the analytical laboratories.

To provide efficient sample management - storage, retrieval and returns service to all sample preparation areas and laboratories.

 

  • To perform a variety of basic procedures to prepare samples, for analysis, accurately and efficiently in accordance with written and verbal instructions.
  • Use of appropriate LIMS to process samples
  • To ‘rack-up’ prepared samples for each laboratory and to deliver samples as necessary.     
  • To prepare blanks in line with relevant AQC requirements.
  • To return customer samples to storage as appropriate.
  • To report any faults and/or abnormalities in equipment or data produced to the Team leader.
  • To inform the Team Leader of low stock levels of consumables required by the work area.
  • To replenish stocks of chemicals and consumables used in sample preparation as necessary.
  • To calibrate and check equipment (e.g. pipettes and dispensers) as per quality requirements. 
  • To adhere to priority lists and work schedules as provided by the Team leader to meet customer requirements.
  • To move bar-coded crates from the receipt/sampling bays and store them within the appropriate cold storage areas, with due regard to their content and weight, recording their location on the LIMS system in an efficient, accurate and safe manner.
  • To identify the correct trays of samples, per the priority lists and deliver same to appropriate work areas in an efficient and safe manner.
  • To return all sample crates to cold storage after use by various work areas, ensuring accurate recording of location in the LIMS
  • To assist with the disposal as necessary – identifying samples for removal and destruction from the cold storage area
  • To be aware of, and conform to, the Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety requirements specific to the work area.
  • To assist the Team leader with the training of other staff in various techniques as required.

Person:

Minimum GCSE level in Maths, English and Science. 

The ability to work accurately, follow instructions and to pay attention to detail is essential.

An appreciation of the requirement to deliver to quality standards in order to deliver customer satisfaction.

The job holder will be IT literate and be able to use Microsoft Word and Excel software.  The job holder will also ideally be familiar with using a laboratory information management system (LIMS) or of learning to use new systems.

The job holder needs to be competent with written and spoken English to assure the following of procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Ideally the job holder will have some laboratory experience including practical knowledge of using a variety of basic laboratory equipment although this is not essential.
